It has been more than two years since the tragic incident where Migos member Takeoff was fatally shot outside a bowling alley in Houston on Nov. 1, 2020. The trial of the individual arrested in connection to the crime remains pending as the legal proceedings continue.
Update on Takeoff's Murder Trial
Following Takeoff's death, Patrick Xavier Clark, 35, and Cameron Joshua, 24, were both apprehended a month later and faced charges related to the incident. Clark was charged with murder, while Joshua was accused of weapons offenses. Authorities stated that Takeoff was an innocent bystander who was shot after an altercation following a game of dice outside 810 Billards and Bowling.
In January 2023, Clark was released on a $1 million bond. Subsequently, he was indicted by a grand jury in May. Progress in the case has been slow, with Clark's legal team filing multiple requests for evidence discovery and court orders. In November of the same year, Clark was granted $20,000 to hire a Senior Visualization Analyst and Defense Expert for his defense.
An internal investigation further complicated matters. In April, reports from Houston's ABC 13 News revealed that Rochelle Austen, a former analyst at the Houston Forensic Science Center, was terminated due to alleged errors in evidence processing that could impact various cases, including Takeoff's murder.
Authorities supported Clark's arrest with surveillance footage allegedly depicting him as the one who shot Takeoff, along with DNA evidence from a wine bottle he held at the scene. Although Clark's case was not among those mishandled by Austen, it raises potential challenges for his defense strategy.
Patrick Clark's upcoming court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 25, according to court records obtained by XXL on Jan. 20.
XXL has contacted his attorney for a statement.
